Draft for legal review, version 2026-10-draft. It describes the alpha as built; it is not final legal text.
Privacy policy
OpenDiscuss is run by Stable Solutions ("we"). This page says what we collect when you use OpenDiscuss, why, who sees it, and how to have it changed or deleted.
What we collect
When you sign up
- Your email address, to send you sign-in links. It is never shown to anyone in a discussion.
- Your name. Only you and we see it. In a discussion you appear under an alias.
- Your month and year of birth, to check that you are old enough to use OpenDiscuss and to place you in an age band. We never show your birth date to anyone.
- Your choices: that you agreed to this policy and the terms, and whether you want product news or to be contacted about research or pilots. We keep the date and the version of this policy for each choice, and every later change.
If you tell us more (optional)
- Your country, and your town or postcode.
- What brings you to OpenDiscuss, and how you heard about it.
- If you want to run discussions: your organisation's type, name and size, your role, what you would use OpenDiscuss for and when, and a work email.
If you take the free meeting assessment
- Your answers to its seven questions, the score and report made from them, and the email address you give us to send that report. We send it once and use the address for nothing else.
- Whether you ticked the separate box asking for occasional ideas about running discussions. It is never ticked for you, and you get the report either way.
When you take part in a discussion
- Your answers, typed or spoken, the summary points made from them, and what you decided about each point (approved, redrafted with your reason, or removed).
- Your answers to a discussion's about-you questions, if its host asked any and you chose to answer. They are always optional.
- The alias you take part under, and which rounds you joined.
Technical
- Cookies that keep you signed in. We use no advertising or tracking cookies.
- A scrambled (hashed) form of your network address when you take the assessment or enter a join code, only to slow down repeated tries. It is deleted after a short window.
Why we use it
- To run the discussions you join: summarising your answers, placing them on the map, and keeping your place across rounds and devices.
- To keep the service safe and within its limits: sign-in, the age check, rate limits, and the daily spending cap.
- To understand who uses OpenDiscuss, so we can improve it and find the organisations it serves. We use your optional profile answers for this.
- To contact you, only if you ticked the box for product news or for research and pilots. You can untick either at any time on your account page.
Who sees what
- Other people in a discussion see your alias and the summary points you approved, as part of the map. They never see your name, email, birth date or profile.
- Your answers to about-you questions are never shown as yours: other participants never see what you answered. If a discussion's host marks one question for "Seen by", the map can be drawn from that question's answers in approximate numbers only: each number is nudged by up to 2, so none is exact, and any under 5 is hidden. It is never drawn person by person. Stable Solutions uses your answers to understand who took part.
- Stable Solutions can see everything above, to run and improve the service.
Your answers can say a lot about you
What you write in a discussion may reveal your political opinions, beliefs, health or other sensitive matters. Data protection law treats some of these as special categories. Write only what you are comfortable sharing; you can remove any summary point before it counts.
Services we use
We share data with these providers only so OpenDiscuss can work:
- Supabase: our database and sign-in.
- Vercel: hosting the website.
- Resend: sending sign-in links and notices.
- AI providers (Anthropic, OpenAI and Typesafe): your answers and the discussion's question are sent to them to write your summary points and place them on the map. Your name, email and profile are not sent.
Children
OpenDiscuss is not for children under 13. If the age check shows someone is under 13, we keep nothing they entered and delete their sign-in account straight away.
How long we keep it
We keep your account while you have one. You can delete it yourself from your account page. Deleting it removes your profile, your choices, your organisation details and your sign-in. Your answers stay in the discussions you took part in, under your alias there, linked to no one: other people’s maps were drawn from them. Assessment submissions are kept until you ask us to delete them. Retention periods are still being decided for this draft.
Your rights
You can see and change your profile and choices on your account page. You can also ask us for a copy of your data, to correct or delete it, or to stop using it for any purpose above other than running the discussions you are in. Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, or California's privacy law), you may have further rights, including the right to complain to a data protection authority.
